Ten ocean users are recovering after being bitten or attacked by sharks in Florida.
The latest incident occurred July 25 off Daytona Beach.
A 33-year-old man was near 1025 S. Atlantic Avenue in waist-deep water when he was bitten on the right foot. The Orlando man was able to make it back to shore with non-life-threatening injuries.
A week before a woman was bitten at the same beach.
Tasa Summers, 40, was also in waist-deep water when she was bitten on her left calf by a shark. When she screamed, her boyfriend looked to see the shark in the water. He swatted at the shark’s face until it took off.
Summers was taken to the beach where a nurse used a hotel employee’s belt as a tourniquet. She was transported to the hospital where she received eight stitches.
She said she loved the ocean and hopes to build up the courage to get back in soon.
A man nearly lost a finger to shark off Miami
Brett Reeder was fishing off Content Keys July 17, a few miles south of Miami when a hooked lemon shark was reeled to the boat.
Reeder wanted to recover his hook and made the mistake of reaching near the shark’s mouth. As he was trying to save his hook, the shark spun and grabbed Reeder’s pinky finger and continued its death-like role.
His wife applied a tourniquet and air transport dispatched. Reeder was given a unit of blood during the airlift to help with his falling blood pressure. Surgeons were able to reattach the pinky finger, but it is unknown if it took.

Bull shark attack off Redington Shores Beach
An elderly female was in the water off Redington Beach June 23 when she was seriously injured by a shark.
Two sharks were seen feeding in deeper water and then started swimming to shore, according to a report on the shark reporting app Dorsal. A good Samaritan named Stephanie and her sister saw the sharks and began alerting swimmers of their presences.
She said the sharks continued into the shallows as an elderly woman was trying to exit the water. The woman was in roughly 3-feet of water when the shark attacked her several times.
The woman was able to make it to the beach where Stephanie said she had injuries to the calf and several injuries to the thigh. Stephanie reported that paramedics arrived in less than 10 minutes and most of the wounds had stopped bleeding at the time. The woman was taken to the hospital.
