Norman Galli was spearfishing off Cheynes in Australia when he was bitten by a shark.
The 50-year-old was swimming next to Bald Island when he was bitten on the right side of his stomach by what he believes was a great white shark.
Galli was able to swim to the shallows and alert friends on a boat.
His friends then transported him to Albany Regional Hospital.
He received seven stitches and is expected to make a full recovery.
Gali had his speargun in his right hand and believes it prevented the shark from doing further damage.
In 2014 Jay Muscat was killed by a shark in the same area.
The location has been marked on the 2015 shark attack bites tracking map.
