A 17 year old high school senior believes he was bitten by a shark on Sunset Beach in North Carolina. WECT reports the incident happened on Sunday July 27. The student saw a two to three foot long shark swim between his legs an bit his foot. Official aren’t sure if it was a shark or another type of fish. The teens family members said the bite pattern was in the shape of a “v” instead of the normal half moon shape.
This will be marked with a triangle instead of the burst shape on the bites tracking map.
***Update 7/30/14***
WNCN reports the teen received 17 stitches and that doctors said the wound could have been by a juvenile Tiger Shark.
From 1837-2013 North Carolina has had a total of 48 shark related incidents with 3 being fatal. The last fatal incident was in 2001.
