A fisherman in Maui got a little more than he bargained for while trying to push his catch back into the water.
Michael Pollard,20, landed an 8- to 10-foot-long tiger shark in Lahaina, Hawaii near Scenic Point.
He and a friend tried to push the shark back into the water, but the shark started flailing and bit Pollard’s leg.
After wrapping up his leg he was treated at Maui Memorial Medical Center where He received 38 stitches.
“I knew it was a shark when I hooked it. I was like, ‘Dammit, I hope I get my (fishing) rigs back.’ After I saw it, I thought I should’ve cut the line, but then I thought, ‘Ah, nah we got it. We’ll get our rigs back.'” he told The Maui News
The injury occurred Tuesday morning.
