Mathew Vickers was shark fishing at Assateague Island National Seashore in Virginia when he felt a tug on his line. But this catch wasn’t ready to be caught, Vickers soon learned. And he wasn’t leaving unscathed either. The shark injured Mr.Vickers artery and tendon. He told delmarvanow:
“He whipped around and grabbed me on the foot. It happened within a matter of seconds. It wasn’t painful because it was so quick.”
His friend used a surfboard leash to stop the bleeding. The 33 year old was then taken by ambulance to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for surgery.
“I’m OK,” he said over the phone to delmarvanow. “I’m in pretty good spirits.”
