Sometime prior to this dusky being caught, it became entangled in a plastic packing strap such as those often found around cardboard boxes. The strap was on the shark long enough to cut deeply into its back in front of the dorsal fin and into the leading edges of both pectoral fins. The strap also had much marine growth on it. I wish I could say this was an isolated incident but this is the second dusky we’ve encountered in the last couple years with plastic straps like this on them. After being freed of the strap the shark was tagged and released from the Fish Finder off Ocean City Maryland – Capt Mark Sampson
