Bull shark vs kayak fisherman

Captain Ben Chancy was fishing for grouper off the coast of Stuart Florida, when he got a little more than he bargained for.

The U.S. Coast Guard captain had a goliath grouper swim through a group of bull sharks to take his bait, only for the fish to spit it out.

A bull shark decided he would enjoy a free meal and was hooked by Capt. Chancy.

After a 20 minute battle the shark swam under Capt. Chancy’s kayak and flipped him out.

Chancy first thought was to go for the kayak, but realized with all the sharks in the water “it wasn’t going to happen.”

He told ABCnews.com “My feet were dangling on the side. And after hearing about all the shark attacks … I figured I had a better chance of swimming to [a support boat] … than sitting there with my feet dangling over the side.”

Once he made it safely back to the support boat, his team was able to retrieve his kayak and Chancy was able to land the fish.
