A 9-year-old was bitten on the hand in Bora Bora according to Shark Year Magazine.
The boy and his mother were on a guided tour of a lagoon in Anau, when the incident occurred.
Tourists are able to see black tip sharks and sting rays.
Apparently the young man may have had a piece of fish in his hand when the bite occurred.
It is believed the shark may have been a black tip reef shark.
The boy was taken to Taaone Hospital in Tahiti for surgery.
The location has been added to the 2015 shark bites attack tracking map.
